"If you can develop discipline and resilience to the challenges that will inevitably come, you can move forward knowing God is still there directing your steps."

Incredibly inspiring. I've got some work to do in order to get some of my larger life goals accomplished and I'm certainly guilty lately of living life too passively. Going to have to sit down tonight and some things planned out.

You and me both man. I finished writing this last night and said to myself “I have to get my stuff together. I am way too passive.”

An excellent piece, Daniel. Very challenging as the pull toward passivity never stops. Actually, as we age, it seems to grow stronger.

I thought about whether or not to include that line. They just weren’t working for me hahaha but yes they are perfectly fine.

Passivity is a universal struggle. Thank you for the reminder that my husband, my kids, homeschooling, and all those other excuses for my not making plans and working toward them should be my motivation to do so!

I forget where (it may have been in a Fr. Mike homily) but I heard someone talk about sitting in discomfort because a given situation isn’t painful enough to make you move on. It takes discipline to change whatever in your life you want to change. I definitely struggle with the passive attitude you mentioned.

This was a great read!

I'm always so grateful for your reflections - they really resonate. It's SO true...moving out of passivity into actually realizing a casted-vision is crucial!

I’m so glad to know you enjoy them and they resonate with you! I was nervous about this one because it kinda seemed a little like motivational speech nonsenses. But I know that just being passive and accepting life as is just has not worked out well for me. But making plans with Christ as my center and guide has, even when the plans get changed over and over again. He takes us where we never knew we needed or wanted to go, despite our plans. But we did plan and put work in and I know that counts for something.

I’ve been convicted of this same thing for the past few weeks. I’ve spent all adulthood casting visions and working toward something and my responsibilities lately have made me think this isn’t as necessary. Funny how getting the things you’ve been working toward could be what slows you down if you let them.
