I always appreciate your support, Ruth! I have actually added your husbands book to my Christams list haha. Hopefully by that time my children will be in a routine that allows me to sit and read physical book. I miss that dearly. I am so thankful to be added to your recommended list!! Again, I really appreciate all your support.

I’m with you there, Brother. We are close to that time. The absurdity that is going on today boggles the mind.

But, we of the Book, know the ending.

And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh. - Luke 21:28

Daniel, great to read another update of yours with added reflections on Kingsnorth's essay. My husband's novel Exogenesis has been described as "worthy successor to Huxley's Brave New World" and presents a vision of the future in which society has become fully divided into an advanced technological megacity on the one hand, and a traditional, family-oriented society on the other. It offers one possible answer to your question, "where are we going?". While it is dystopian, it nevertheless offers hope.

I appreciate that your share your efforts at digital detox on a weekly basis and have added you to my "recommended" list :) Hopefully this will point some additional readers who will benefit from your insights and encouragement in your direction.

Nice write up, Daniel. I start my mornings these days playing a few word games on my phone and to check substack.

I removed all of my news apps and I don't do social media so I don't get distracted by those sites. I also removed my e-mail app so i check that a little less often, too

By limiting what I actually do on my phone, I have been able to turn the phone off after a couple hours in the morning. I am retired so I don't have all of the work issues to contend with and have been able to return calls and texts frequently enough that there have been very few issues within my circle of family and friends.

I can honestly say, I am much happier doing this but acknowledge it woukd be so much harder if I was still in leadership roles.

These are dark days and the slide is real. It is so important that folks push back and adapt in their personal.ways to hold on to our values and personal interactions.

Thank you! I am jealous if being able to delete the email app from your phone. I have to have it for work and I loath it. Really cool to hear about how you have taken steps to disengage from digital tech. As some point in my journey I will cross the threshold and no longer be detoxing. I’ll just have very limited use as a way of life. I have a long way to go but I am putting in the effort. That way, if and when we slide into a dystopia, it will be easy for me to draw my line and resist being controlled by technology.

Are we living in exactly the society Huxley predicted? No. Are we well on our way?

Absolutely.

But then, I run a newsletter and podcast detailing the ways we are adopting dystopic practices, particularly in science and medicine. 😉

I’d be interested to hear your thoughts!

Cheers!
